Winter on Ile St Louis
Winter, especially the holiday season, is wonderful in Paris. The city is masterfully lit in order to take advantage of the magnificent architecture. It is dark approximately 16 hours of each day during the colder months of December and January. I love seeing Paris glowing with snow on the ground reflecting the light at dawn and dusk. After a snowfall in Paris I walked along the Seine in the 5th Arrondissement at the moment of dusk, approximately 30 minutes after sunset. I spotted this stairway that seemingly leads nowhere when masked with a layer of snow and waited for someone to walk by, or in photo-speak I wanted to add a human element to the image. Ile Saint Louis is glowing across the Seine as seen from this location near the Quai de la Tournelle. Light is perfect at this time of day when the artificial light on the street is approximately equal to the light in the sky.
Technical specifics: Canon EOS 5D Mark II, 24mm, aperture 3.5 and a shutter speed of 1/15 of a second, ISO 3200.
