Arcimboldo

The curious works of Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1526-1593) is now on display at the Musee du Luxembourg. Arcimboldo is known for his fascinating composite heads that combined with natural elements like plants, fruits, flower, animals and other bizarre elements. The exhibition is housing one hundred works including the mysterious heads as well as other fine pieces like paintings, tapestries and drawings on loan from museums and private collections around the world. The collection is being presented from now through June 1, 2008.

For more information on this arresting collection entitled Arcimboldo, please check the Musee du Luxembourg’s website.

Cabaret

Folies Bergere is play host to the French adaptation of the infamous musical Cabaret. Twenty two performers and ten musicians will delight you throughout the duration of the play, which has been in Paris since October 2006 and plans on staying until January 28, 2008. Please see the Folies Bergere’s website for further information.

Homage to Guernica

Finally! Another excuse to visit the brilliant Musee National Picasso – the Homage to Guernica exhibit. The exhibition is a 60 year commemoration to the bombing of Basque city in Spain on April 26, 1937. The violence resulted in over 4,000 deaths and stirred Picasso’s infamous Guernica painting. Although Picasso’s Guernica is set to remain in Reina Sofia museum in Madrid, Paris’ Musee National Picasso has organized a special section dedicated to the work of photographer Gille Peress, who was present during the bombing and will showcase works with the theme of “Mass Graves.” The exhibition promises to be completely eerie and awe-inspiring all at once.

The museum is located in Hôtel Salé and the exhibition runs from now through January 7, 2008. For further information please check the Musee National Picasso website.

Song of the World

Currently the renown Louvre Museum is showcasing two unique collections that featuring Middle Eastern works. Song of the World is one of the two and is a stunning collection of the art of the Safavid Dynasty that reigned supreme in Iran from 1501-1736 and opened the country up to an artistic revolution, linking written word with visual aids; all of which leads to the all encompassing recurring theme of divine creation.

The exhibit is being held in Napolean Hall from 9:00am – 6:00pm everyday, Tuesday’s aside, through January 7, 2008. The price is 9.50EUR. For more information on this exhibit, check the Louvre’s extraneous website specifically for Song of the World.
