Sun on Les Invalides, Tulips at the Market

By Clay McLachlan

Tulips at the MarketThis week I have a series of two photographs I took while going about my business this week in Paris. As we all know, Paris never ceases to amaze with colors and textures and moments so predictable and yet never tiresome. One sunny day earlier this week I was using a bicycle, thanks to Vélib', to meet a visiting winemaker friend from Italy. Maybe it was because I was going to meet someone from out of town. Or maybe just because it was one of those beautiful sunny and warm-feeling moments that often seem so fleeting in Paris, I had my eyes wide open and was struck by the view of the backside of Invalides and the trees in the foreground in winter mode. I pulled my bike over, waited for the right moment and this is what I saw. Later in the week I was visiting my favorite tiny outdoor market in the 14th Arrondissement, not because it is better than any others, but only because I was nearby and I have spent more time at this little market than any other in Paris as it was outside my front door for 4 years. Everyone has flowers on their mind as we approach Valentine's Day and this simple bucket of tulips caught my attention, so I snapped, and this is what I saw. Two moments in Paris...this week.
