Review: Mark Clément Coiffure

By Priscilla Lalisse When you walk in, you find yourself surrounded by warm spotlights, cosy ecru walls, sparkling mirrors and perfectly arranged flowers. The essence of Zen is thoroughly achieved here. Welcome! You are inside the Mark Clément Coiffure. As you might remember, I mentioned this salon in my last article on black hair “Combing for a Salon.”  After reading that article, someone asked me, “But where do you go?”  That got me to thinking, maybe I should shed more light on the salon that I myself have chosen from the list of salons.  So here I am, or rather, here he is, Mark Clement.

Who is he?
Mark is an American who hails from one of the hair capitols of the world - Los Angeles.  He has worked in theatre and with several television and movie stars, but considers everyone who comes to his Paris salon a star and he means it. “Yes, it’s true that I have worked with celebrities and done video clips as well as stage work,” he said.  “But I feel that all my clients are special and I give my best with every person that walks in.”  Trust me, it’s true.  Whether the staff is offering you a hot cup of coffee, the latest Glamour magazine or talking to you about the world’s events, you feel welcome here.

His Products
Since most of us care about products, rest assured that he has the right ones. Unlike other salons in Paris, Mark’s team works with many different types of hair textures and carries products for each type.  “I don’t buy products solely based on marketing or because it’s the new thing,” he elaborates.  “I choose my products based on my client’s hair texture and what’s best for them.”

Expertise
The salon specializes in weaves, perms, relaxers, cuts, braids, color, highlights and rinses - everything you’d expect from a good salon.  Mark’s top priority? Healthy hair.  He states, “I am not afraid to say no and I will not sacrifice healthy hair for a trendy hair style. That’s why we do consultations, we find the best style for the person.  I can turn a catastrophe into nice hair.”

International Flair
Having lived in Paris for over twenty years, Mark sees himself not only as the owner of an upscale salon, but as someone who brings people together from all over the world. His staff is multi-cultural and so are his clients.  France is represented of course, but so are countries such as Algeria, America, Sweden and Russia.  What makes this salon so unique is that anyone can walk in, regardless of hair texture and leave with a great looking do.
