Promenade Plantee: Walking Above Paris

By Clay McLachlan

I returned to Paris after a quick trip to New York to shoot images for a new book. In New York I discovered and marveled at the new walking area called the High Line.

While walking one mid-afternoon I stumbled upon the Promenade Plantée, such an elevated walkway along a former elevated train line right here in Paris!

There is wild vegetation along the pathway that stretches from the Bastille to Varenne-Saint-Maur in the 12th arrondissement.

This is a wonderful path to explore as I did while marveling at the architecture on both sides with views of the street below as well. Paris delights me around every corner.

St.Germain Betsy is correct; The organizers of the High Line often visited the Promenade Plantee

Re: "High line in Paris" I believe the Paris walkway was one of the inspirations for the New York High Line.
