Paris People by LWO

Visual artist LWO has sought out a different breed of people – a quiet, demure and stiff type – the kind of people we stroll past hundreds of times a year without paying them so much as an up and down as we pass them by.  Who are we talking about? Mannequins of course. This innovative Internet exhibition featuring hundreds of images of mannequins throughout Paris can be accessed at Paris People.

The Luck O’ the Welsh

From February 29 through March 1 Disneyland Resort Paris is celebrating St. David’s Day with a unique festival that features concerts, dancing, rugby, food and crafts all in the name of the Welsh.

French Fare at the Holiday Fair

The Salon International du Tourisme is holding its annual French Holiday Fair from March 13 – 17 at the Porte de Versailles. From 10am – 7pm guests can sample some of the best hidden fare in the delectable worlds of French foods and wines. Admission is 8.50EUR.

Paris Tour Court Short Film Fest

This eight day festival takes place at Cinema L’Arlequin and seeks to celebrate the reemergence of the short film genre. Nearly 24 countries from around the world take compete for French and international prizes. Paris Tour Court runs this year from March 11 – 18. Admission is 5EUR and 4EUR for concessions or visitors can opt for an 8-day pass for 30EUR and 25EUR concessions.

Celebrating Women

The International Women’s Film Festival at the Maison des Arts puts a fresh “filmy” spin on celebrating women today. Cinema contributions are worldwide. This fest runs from March 14 – 23 with various admissions and hours depending on the film.

Antiques Fair

For a mere 5EUR visitors can join the throngs of serious shoppers and strollers alike who browse the Hippodrome de Longchamp’s Antiques Fair. Nearly 300 exhibitors sell everything and anything an antique lover’s heart can desire. Bargain hunting begins at 11am and ends at 7pm from March 14 – 24.

Easter Services at Notre Dame

Even if you are not of the Catholic faith, it couldn’t hurt to experience the wonder that is a holiday mass at the glorious Notre Dame Cathedral. Get in touch with your spiritual side from March 21 – 24 this Easter holiday. Masses are free of charge.

A Kickin’ Good Time

The Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy is hosting its annual Martial Arts Fest again on March 29 from 6:30pm onwards into the evening. It is one of the best martial arts displays in the world and nearly 15,000 guests travel from near and far to get the experience. Admission is 24 – 49EUR.

Wozzeck

Berg’s Wozzeck comes to life once again at the Opera Bastille in various dates through March and April. Admissions are 5 – 130EUR and performance times vary to the date.

Real & Raw

After being receiving a devastating diagnosis of breast cancer, Marine Bureau-Kohn turned to art to relieve her stresses. Her Nib’Art exposition at the Cite des Sciences is as motivating, real and raw as it gets. Nib’Art is available from January 29 – March 30, 2008. Cite des Sciences is open from Tuesday – Sunday 10am – 6pm.

Gotcha!

If you are in France for April Fool’s Day, beware! It is common practice to put paper fish on the backs of unsuspecting passersby on the Champs Elysees during this spoof filled holiday.

That’s a Knee Slapper!

From March 27 – April 4 over 30 venues are prepared to tickle all guests’ funny bones during the Paris Does Comedy festival. A festival pass is 12EUR but separate events and hours admissions and times vary to venue.

Spring (Cleaning) is in the Air

Someone else’s spring cleaning trash may very well be your next treasure at the annual Pavillion des Antiquaries fair. Held from April 2 – 6 from 11am – 8pm, this fair expects 40,000 visitors to stroll through the fresh spring blooms at Jardin des Tuileries.

Pavillon des Arts et du Design

The Jardin des Tuileries is hosting the annual Pavillon des Arts et du Design, the same weekend it is hosting the Pavillion Antiquaries Fair. This contemporary fair features all realms of art and design including jewelry, furniture and photography among others.

Car Goes Vroom, Vroom!

Dozens of the latest car models will roar into the Auto Plaisir car show at the Paris Expo in Porte de Versailles. For 12EUR guests can explore these models and so much more. The car show runs from April 4 – 6 from 10am – 7pm.

Le Grand Rex Presents Dianne Reeves

Legendary jazz songstress Dianne Reeves is giving a performance at Le Grand Rex on April 7 in support of her new album, When You Know. Admission is 34 – 56EUR and the show starts at 8pm.

Banlieues Bleues

From March through April St Denis is alive with the sounds of jazz and blues. Hours and admissions vary to the lineup.

20 Years of Chorus

Paris’ Festival Chorus is celebrating its 20th anniversary by bringing down the house at 34 venues across the city from March 29 – April 11. Nearly 110 artists are set to participate in 80+ concerts. Admission is 18EUR and hours range from concert to concert.

La Defense Modern Art Fair

One of the most notable modern art fairs, not only in Paris, but in the world the La Defense Modern Art Fair is a highly anticipated event. This year the Grande Arche de la Defense presents the theme Arcs et Arches from April 8 – 12. Admission is 6EUR and hours run from 11am – 7pm.

Off Limits

In various venues across the city, the Off Limits festival features experimental themes in the gentres of film, dance, theatre, spoken word, poetry and workshops. The fest runs from March 28 – April 12. Admission and hours vary from venue and event.
