Welcome, Grant!

As you know if you've "lurked" for a while, this is the best place for answers, so bring your questions. And when you get to Paris, I hope you'll post your impressions and experiences.
Welcome Grant, I don't get to Paris often but boy, she stays with you long after you return home. wub.gif
Well you've tempted me out of guest browsing! smile.gif

I tend to come on every now and again just to try and get more of a feel of real life in Paris. I don't live in the city (yet!) but I hope to one day soon, so I enjoy reading over the forum every now and again.

Perhaps now though i'll come forward with my own questions and contribute more. I'd encourage some of the 'lurkers' to do the same.
To give an answer from someone who is often a "guest" - I tend to log in only when I have something to post, and I don't post often as I'm one who, with only two short trips to Paris and sadly none in the near future, really doesn't have a great deal to share or ask at this point. However, I thoroughly enjoy reading all that others have done on their trips and keeping notes on all that is involved with a move to France as I still hope to work this out at some point.

I do know from involvement at other boards, even knowing the various reasons for not posting, that it can be frustrating sometimes to see so many members, but only a small percentage of them participating.

Boy -- I couldn't agree more. If only people would register. It takes only a minute and is FREE. On the other hand, we try to be sure that the ISPs are real and we don;t attract a lot of people who simply want to distribute SPAM.

As for the get togethers, they vary from one to another and city to city. And please remember, some people are discussion board aficionados while other read the articles. There's something for everyone.

Al certainly has been a faithful ... and possesses a sense of the site's history.
Ellen and Stacy.....times have changed and so are the people who follow BP. As probably one of the longest continual posting members of BP I can attest to that.

The most active posters today without question are ex-pats rather than people who have a love affair with France and Paris and want to learn more.
That the Forum (at this time of the year) isn't full of requests for info of coming up trips to Paris is beyond belief...and when is the last Trip Report you've read.?

I set up two GTGs in Paris over the past year and because of family reasons I couldn't attend. I understand that most of those who did attend were expats who were in Paris anyhow.

I expect to be in Paris shortly. This time I haven't set up a GTG because I didn't want to put a kibosh on the trip and the expats will be here to get in touch with anyhow.

Even at the height of posting, guests (really a misnomer) always outnumbered members by far but we always did have at least half a dozen or more members listing as "" attending".
Stacy,

When we had the Washington, DC BP luncheon, I assumed that I'd know everyone there from the board. Au contraire, there were only a few people out of the 20 or 30 present from the board. Others were subscribers to the newsletter and many expressed a reluctance to post.

I agree with you, the more the merrier!
As I peruse the board right now, it shows 1 member (me) and 26 guests.

I'm curious to know why more people don't post. Are they looking for information and feel they have none to share? Are they shy? Just browsing?

It would be great if more people would join in!
