Thanks, I tried that before and it didn't tell me a lot, except a museum of contemporary art sounds pretty cool! They also seem chuffed with their suspension bridge...

OK. Then you've probably also looked already at the city's own web site. But if not:

http://www.mairie-vitry94.fr/

Look at historique and the découvrir vitry archives.

Good luck.

Marc
It doesn't sound so exciting as it's a bedroom community of Paris:

Here are some facts.

Vitry-Sur-Seine is a commune in the southeastern suburbs of Paris.

FACTS AND FIGURES

Population: 81,500
Is located 7.5 km. (4.7 miles) from the center of Paris
Was originally called simply Vitry. The name Vitry comes from Medieval Latin Vitriacum, and before that Victoriacum, meaning 'estate of Victorius', a Gallo-Roman landowner
Is served by two stations on Paris RER line C: Vitry-sur-Seine and Les Ardoines

SIGHTS AND ATTRACTIONS

Saint Germain church
Port a L'anglais
Municipal gallery

But it doesn't really look all that promising. Sorry.

I'm going to be staying here next year for a week with my French relatives to practice my A Level French. Does anyone know about this suburb of Paris - any interesting facts or places to visit, history etc? I don't want to be completely in deep water when it comes to cultural conversations...!
