Lloyd,

Your tour sounded really good--small groups are really nice.

What was the good restaurant, please?
Jean

Jean,
I don't have the name of the restaurant as we did not have to pay the bill and I have no receipt. It was practically next door to the grower's cooperative we visited on rue Cooperative in the small town of Cumieres.

HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...

we appear to be getting off the subject of Reims and the Campagne Country!
My husband drove us around the Arc de Triomphe several times, until he was able to get to the street shooting off sideways that led to a parking lot. Phew!

Lloyd,

What did you think of the Paris Marriott? I know you usually stay at smaller hotels and am curious about the comparison.
I think I'm losing my marbles. I know I made a post in this thread and can even visualize it with my Avatar showing and with the reality that goes with it.

I had also been on one of the minivan tours with less than seven people and the driver a personal tour guide. We went on a one day trip to the Normandy beaches and environs (this from 6.30AM pick up and return at 8pm). Most all the Paris bus people have a selection of these tours and they are great and also a bit pricey.

Actually, the most adventurous part of the tour was negotiating the circular road around the Arc de Triumph during the evening rush hour. It's multi-directional bumper-to-bumper and nobody slows down. Anybody who has been to Paris and not experienced this cannot consider having done it all in gay Paree.

Lloyd,

Enjoyed reading your report. I was in the area last year when I stayed in St.Cyr-sur-Morin.

I have pictures in the little church where Dom Perignon is buried.

Sounds like you had a good day.
We booked a tour with ParisVision during our trip to Paris two weeks ago. It really turned out well. The tour was on a minivan with two other couples. We were picked up at our hotel, (Paris Marriott), by the driver at 7:30AM and then proceeded to pick up the other two couples at the Hotel du Louve.

We drove east out of Paris and eventually drove through Chateau-Thierry where the driver pointed out the WWI memorial to American troops. We then proceeded on the "Route du Champagne" with a interesting stop at the 16th century Chateau Conde. We then went to a local growers' cooperative where we toured the champagne making process which included a tasting. Next was lunch at a local restaurant - very good by the way - with more Champagne. After a brief stop at the church where Dom Perignon is buried we proceeded on to Reims with a tour of its cathedral and then a guided tour of the cellars of G. H. Mumm in Reims which also included a tasting.

It was a great day and we were back at our hotel at 6:30PM as promised. We had considered taking a train and doing this tour on our own, but we were glad we choose the tour as it was far more interesting and instructive and we saw a lot more than we could have on our own. Our guide/driver, Ian, did a great job of driving and kept us entertained with a very informative description of our tour as we drove through the countryside.
