CHUCK......don't remember where I saw it, it was so long ago.
Al, I just wonder if you did not see the plaque about the "taxi division" around the Maren river, just east of Paris, as this is where the battle of the Marne took place, wher they took all the cabs (or at least most of them) and had them transort the division to the battlefield. I saw this commemorated at several places, however I have no idea where it was.

P.S.: No personally I do not remember the Battle of the Marne!

Does anyone know of a guide or a source for English speaking tours of American World War I sights? I can't recall all of the places he mentioned wanting to see. I know that Verdun was one of them.

Even though (for some reason) there is a small American cemetary near Verdun, the Battle of Verdun was in 1916 and did not involve Americans. I have passed a number of World War I sites and they were mostly plaques hanging on a building or even just a comment that the Paris taxis bringing troops to the front drove on this road. Unless there is a museum commemorating American activity in WWI, I feel that most of these sites would be hardly more than a plaque "a battle was on this spot almost 90 years ago". If there is more than that I would love to hear about it as it would interest me also.
I am looking forward to going to Giverny (never been) and to my cooking workshop on this, my third trip to Paris. The rest of my group has been only once or not at all, so their agenda is a bit different from mine. smile.gif My husband wants to see the American World War I sights, prefereably with a guide, and hopefully on one of the days that I'm doing something else. Thanks so much for everyone's guidance on this board!
