Hi,
There is a bulletin board similair to this one operating just for Burgundy http://www.burgundyboard.com. Give it a visit and try posting there for some local knowledge and information.
Robin
Jean,

Thanks for the suggestion..their problem is that they will be arriving in Chalon a day early to catch their boat and will be arriving by train...no car...sooo they need to be in Chalon...not much there for lodging..........
The Bellecroix is very nice for an overnight stop, but sometimes the management requires that you take dinner there--not so good if you want to eat at the 3* Lameloise!
Merci....

That is the map that I saw for the hotel...I told them that it looked like about 6 blocks!

I forwarded our messages on to them..now they are on their own....we ALL have done it for them!!

thank you

a bientot.................
Quel service, Marcel! biggrin.gif C'est nickel!

I see, you senior people have a LOT of time at hand to play around with your computer.....

Hotel St-Georges *** , near Rail Station, about 700 meters from docks River Saone (walk 10 minutes)

For plan, look at http://mappy.com, 32 Avenue J.Jaures, Chalon s/saone 71100
I looked at their barge cruise...it is really a lovely very large ship..deluxe rooms, A/C etc.........barge cruises of any type are really not for me........
Yes, I think it has to be eith St.-Georges or St-Regis..St. Georges appears to be about 6 blocks from the river...I don't know why it would make much difference to them...they are great walkers..about 5 miles a day!!!

Thanks for looking..........
Well, the BW Saint Régis*** doesn't look too bad and should be as comfy as the barge. wink.gif
While it's not right on the river, it's not far from it and right in town.
Ursula,

I think you found what I did....I think the river areas there are factories and industrial area...I did find one via Google..near the river..Hotel Syracuse..looked at it..2 star...cheap, cheap and no, I don't think so....

Need Chalon because of a barge cruise down the Rhone beginning there..not for me, but for a friend..........
Joan,
Doesn't look like heaven for hotels! blink.gif

You might want to have a look at the tourist office's web page which lists all hotels in town (some three 3-stars) and also some outside the town.
Just click onto 'Hébergement' and scroll down the page. When you click in the hotels' names, you will most probably get detailled information.

Hope this helps for a start, if you really need to overnight right there.

Oh, the Hostellerie de Bellecroix (a Châteaux de France hotel, also Relais de Silence) in Chagny does look rather inviting. wub.gif.
Does anyone know of a nice hotel NEAR the river. Need one early November for only one night. Thnk you for your help.
