Done by robots? So what's our next step? What does IPB have to say about this matter?

Al: We are going to have to wait for posters to be approved after registering. It will take 24-48 hours longer than before. It's in the works ...

In advance, thank you for your patience.

I see by the papers that international spam is returning with a vengeance. Yet my email, which is protected by AOL, is under continued wonderful control against spam.

I notice that BP discussion section is inundated with spam currently. It takes the spam a couple of steps to invade. First it has to know it is a chat site with many recipients .Then it has to sign in in order to post. Then it has to find a place to drop its message which invariably is Trip Report. Putting spam on my email is a piece of cake in comparison.

Done by robots? So what's our next step? What does IPB have to say about this matter?

I'd like to second Jean's sentiments. These posts are not always made by people but are created by spam bots.

If this is done by bots, how come they almost always pick Trip Reports which is not the first safe harbor to drop their message???

These posts just keep coming, hard as we moderators and the BP technical staff try to make them go away. We're all aware of the problem, but there's no easy solution as long as the posts keep turning up one after another from different parts of the world. Thanks to those of you who are so quick to report the nasties.

The last time we were inundated, the BP webmaster banned all of Russia. Seeemed extreme - mais.
