Thanks, likewise! I'm a lot better, still taking it a bit easy though! And I did enjoy that meal!

That'll teach you ! Eating that Southwestern French food. wink.gif Didn't you tell your doctors it was just a case of too much saturated fats? tongue.gif

That's terrible, Mara. I hope you're altogether over it by now.
It was fun meeting you.

Marc:

How I wish I'd been able to attend. Thank you for arranging the evening.

Thanks also to Marc - the GTG was fun and I was happy to meet everyone.

If anyone might recall, I was a little under the weather that night.....well, by the time I got home three nights later I was quite ill with a high fever and ended up being diagnosed with pneumonia!

But that did not spoil my trip at all, thank goodness, and I look forward to many more.....GTGs as well smile.gif

Moi aussi. Certainly early next Spring...J'espere.

And Marc, didn't I say thank you? wink.gif

Indeed you did, Al. Looking forward to seeing you--other BPers too, I hope--in the Spring.

And thanks, Lutèce. It was a lot of fun.

A big thanks to Marc for organizing such a great dinner! Darrin and I had a great time meeting everyone, and hope there will be another GTG soon!!

I understand when this is served ala carte it is quite a spectacle in which the potatos get a real aeration.

Oh yes. Kind of like mint tea in a Moroccan restaurant, but with potatoes.

A question.....on the menu there was a dish Potée de Porc Fermier . If you remember, how was this prepared and what part of the Porc?svp.

Hi Al,

We were all sorry you missed it too. The Spring trip, then.

No one ordered the Potée, but I'm sure your earlier hypothesis about what it would be like was substantially correct. Joel Robuchon describes a Poetée auvergnate: "a mixture of meats (among which pork dominates) and vegetables (especialy cabbage)." His recipe calls for bacon, pig's tail, pig's feet, salt pork, and sausage (on the pork side); cabbage, carrots, turnips, potatoes, and leeks for the vegetables. I think a potée is meant to be more soupy than a stew.

What we ate: only two entrées--one lentil salad with bacon, one Jerusalem artichoke soup; for main dishes, there were two magrets de canard (served with aligot), one sausage with aligot, two blanquettes de veau with roquefort cheese. For dessert there four chocolate mousses and one trio of crèmes with auvergnat flavorings. (Aligot is mashed potatoes flavored with garlic and bound together with a stringy cheese. A specialty of the house.)

Marc
Sorry I missed the Paris "event" . I hope to attend one in early spring and will let you all know soon.
By the way, I know the company was great...how was the food? A question.....on the menu there was a dish Potée de Porc Fermier . If you remember, how was this prepared and what part of the Porc?svp.
"Trip" report:

The much-revised November GTG went off as scheduled. In attendance: Mara, Lutèce and her husband Darrin, Marc and his visiting friend RJ. The Ambassade put on a good show in the kitchen, the room was filled and therefore cheerful, but not crowded or loud. The conversation was wide-ranging--but always about Paris.

I think we were all happy to meet one another (I know I was), and look forward to future GTGs and future opportunities to meet other BPers.

Marc
OK, BPers, les jeux sont faits, the reservation is made:

Wednesday Nov. 15
Ambassade d'Auvergne
22 rue du Grenier St Lazare
Paris 3e
8 p.m.

It is in my name, COGAN.

See you there.

Marc
Well, I think we need to make a decision.

On the basis of posts and some PMs, I suggest Wednesday, Nov. 15, Ambassade d'Auvergne, 22 rue du Grenier St Lazare 75003 Paris, at 8 p.m.

Tomorrow (Monday), I'll make a reservation for 5 (as of this moment). If (1) you've got a major problem with date or time or place; (2) you're gonna be 2 persons, Johnny; or (3) you want to come but you haven't spoken up yet, please pipe up immediately.

Marc
I thought we'd already missed the GTG, but if not, my husband Darrin and I can make it. We can't make it on Tues or Thurs nights because we have French class. Other than that, most evenings work well for us.
hello, i just saw this thread, i could go. i live in paris so i'm flexible as to time and date.
Hello again,

The saga continues. BPAL has had to cancel his autumn trip to Paris, leaving the proposed Nov. GTG with very few participants. If we were to change the date of the GTG from Nov. 14 to another evening that week (so Mara can attend during her stay), are there any other BPers who would be able to attend?

Speak up quickly, please.

Marc
