I know this is heresy to talk of patissieries without talking about chocolate, but reading this section reminded me of a patisserie we stopped at near the street marche off Av de Ternes in the 17th (do they still have it?). Now this was late March, and they had, I think macaroons that were a bit like Oreos, with flavors like chocolate orange, pistache, fraise. They were do die for, but I always had a hard time finding it, since we rarely stayed in the area. They also sold these wonderful cakes in the shape of animals (pigs, sheep, cows, etc) with a hard icing frosting. My first reaction to these was that it was a custom similar to that in Bavaria with marzipan animals as an Easter gift. I managed to stumble into it on another trip, and they were selling a lot of Bavarian and Viennese pastries. Is this a one-of-a-kind place, or is it more typical of a patisserie in the suburbs?
I know its too early for Bouche de Noel, but since we are returning on 22 Nov, are there any patisseries that make some product similar that would be appropriate to serve as dessert for our Thanksgiving dinner. This assumes, of course, that it survives hand-carrying on the airplane?
