As I posted earlier, I greatly enjoyed SUITE FRANCAISE. I have been reading articles and reviews about Irene Nemirovsky and some interesting points were brought up regarding the book. Nemirovsky who converted to Catholicism from Judaism apparently had right wing friends who were anti-Semites. One reviewer made a point in saying "One puzzling omission from the spectrum of conquered and cowering French society is the Jews -- the one group that was more endangered than any other, as Némirovsky knew only too well."

Jonathan Weiss has written a biography of Nemirovsky which is not out yet but I am very anxious to read it.

This gives me a chance to say thank you to Jean and Karen as I go through a difficult time, , they have helped me so much emotionally, to stay afloat. I've been reading this wonderful book.

maybe you've all heard of this before but there's a "new" book out called Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky which i'd highly recommend. I say "new" because it was published in 2004, but in fact was written during World War II -- the author died in Auschwitz in 1942 and her daughter arranged for publishing only a few years ago. It is now out in English translation in the US. it is not only interesting historically describing occupied France during WW II but it is a wonderfully written novel.

Here's a review (look out for spoilers!):
