Al: all I can think is perhaps Delta is getting smart and trying to outdo the competition. So many people are fed up with their usual "carriers" that Delta might be attempting to capture them.
To say the very least, passengers do respond to pleasant service and hate being nickeled and dimed to death.
???
Karen....Je ne comprends pas......It would appear from the postings that it is Delta who is not on the austerity kick. It was delta who gave the vin and the diner at no charge as others do.Delta was performing as the pre oil rise and giving food and drink at even a better level on their new flights.
Al: Please remember that Delta and AF are co-share partners. It's possible that AF hasn't adopted the austerity mentality where it feels as if it's doing passengers a favor if they're given FREE water. The days of flying being glamorous are over. Sad for those of us who are travel addicts. (:
ATT: LOUIS .....I flew on the new Delta non stop from JFK to Barcelona and they served a full meal with FREE drinks plus a continental breakfast in the AM. On the flight back to JFK from Rome they did serve a frozen pizza for an afternoon snack (wasn't bad) and a dinner at lunch with free drinks. Hard to imagine they would do less on a flight to Salt Lake.Maybe the Frenchman didn't like the idea of a frozen pizza. I can't imagine they didn't serve a dinner and wine as they did on both my flights.
So here is the latest info on the flight. A Frenchman flew with his daughter a couple of weeks ago from CDG to SLC on the nonstop. I asked if Delta had gussied up its service for the new flights.
"If you consider frozen pizza..." he said.
I was appalled as wrote Delta suggesting they might have upgraded their service but they sent me an email saying they were doing the best they can.
We are flying to Paris in September on the nonstop and plan to take our own picnic.
Sam -- Delighted to read that! It will make the trip easier for Kelly! Not to mention, the two of you!!
Delta has announced that it will begin daily non-stop service from SLC to CDG in June, 2008. This may be on Air France metal, at least at first, but I am unsure on that point. The announcement I saw mentioned departure on the eastbound leg around 5pm, arriving the next day around 11 am. Going west, departure is at 10:20 am, arriving around 1:30pm.
This won't mean much to the East Coast folks, but for anyone in Denver or further west, it is an option to have a much bigger part of the trip on a larger international aircraft, and also to avoid going through the hellish east coast hubs like Dulles and Kennedy.
